poetigress The Thursday prompt.
I'm satisfied with this. The premise is a man and woman buy a new house and they're lying on the carpet and the woman is staring out the sliding glass door.
"A smile, two smiles. Two smiles, a smile."

Seriously, Elizabeth (as she lives in my head) doesn't even know what's up with this piece. I can't tell if it's supposed to be a son she never had, or if it's supposed to be a son she lost and now she's in denial that she ever had a son to lose in the first place. Either way, I think that Elizabeth's story is more about what it means to be a parent than her actually having a child.
Glad you enjoyed it, though. I've been writing a few softer/more-grounded-in-reality pieces, and it's good to hear that they're working.

My family and I built the house we're living in right now, and we rented it out to a family from Massachusetts for a while. They turned out to be scumbags and pretty much trashed our house before running back to the east coast with their middle fingers raised and pointing behind them. You can still see some of their toddler's crayon marks on some of the walls...makes me wonder how the little monster is turning out. :P
