“How can I trust you?” I hear you ask this question many times. I hear it in many languages and many voices.
“How can I trust you?” Though I alone have never told a lie.
“How can I trust you?” When I have shown no bias based on race or sex, age or religious denomination.
Throughout the ages I have been asked this question many times, and have asked it of myself. Why should you trust me? After all, my form is never the same. I may be peaceful and silent, or great and terrible. I may be a comfort or a terror. To some I am a relief, a single constant, while to others I am something to be fought tooth and nail.
So, why should you trust me?
Because I am a friend. I am the one who is waiting for you at the end of the road, ready to guide you onward into the great unknown. I am your guide and guardian. I am the one who walks with you on your greatest adventure.
Now please, take my hand. The light from my scythe will guide the way.
