Daz and Poser give you the ablity to use 3D Figures (that other people create, but you can edit them to some extent to make them into your own character, check out Star Fox Krystal for Poser and see all the 1000's of variations people have done with her around here).
Poser costs alot, but Daz has a Free Version (they have a pay version, but so far it doesn't seem all that differnt from the free version). Many figures are free, but some cost. At the very least if you get the free DAZ3D program you can use the free figures untill you have enugh cash to buy props, extras and other figures if you wish.

Some characters could be ported to SL, or Unreal, and stuff like that, but that takes levels of programing I have no skill in (I've seen some people do it though but its tough).

You can upload them as long as you modify the character a little, or put actual effort into making 3D render look like art. IE. Give it a background, have the character do "SOMETHING"
alot of people when Krystal first was released where just putting up static nothing happening images of her. Really a waste of time and bandwith. But some 3D guys actuly go out of their way to make art out of it.

however the mouse and fox girl and their clothes are made by stock characters from other people (while the Squid girl is made by Kingroaw FOR me :) ) I took a human character made my own texture and made her into the fox girl. I took a human body, and a Cat girl head, changed the head into a mouse and added hair, and I made my mouse character. So stuff like that is ok.

ah, okay. my brother would probably be more interested though, he's the real computer geek round my house.

Yah, the main purpose of these types of programs used to be to be able to make a large variety of people for backrounds in other 3d works...so everyone could look different, make them fast and effective (i think)... BUt it created a whole new market of 3d users. Now you can get just about anything, make scenes, animations are easy to do... you could take years learning a 3d program like maya or 3ds max, or you could take weeks learning poser or daz. There are websites devoted to nothing but porn for it, and site devoted to nothing but free items.
Lots-o-stuff... more than a few terabytes...
ANyway, I made this guy for sale over at Content Paradise. I'm sure I'll make clothing and such later!
