Image features a Dog playing with a Horse.
You will notice that the dog's ears are "turned around".
I once saw this on a mask and asked the carver why the ears were turned around on his mask. He said that small discrepancies like that are from a number of details that- when changed- could add to the character of the mask, or have some ulterior meaning. He used the flipped ears to signify "floppy ears" on dogs to differ from wolves. I asked if that was a particular symbol, or can be used by other people. He said that it wasn't so I was free to use it if I wanted.
I thanked him very much and here was one of the first times I have implemented the flipped ears.
You will also notice the lack of other animals on the dog. While cultures/Bands differ in stories and concepts, when I was taught about the dog, I was taught that the reason wolves and other animals disliked the dog was because it betrayed the animals when they came to an agreement on how to distance themselves from man. Dog sulked out of the gathering to warn man of what they were doing. The animals shunned the dog, and cursed him to go back and forever grovel for scraps at man's feet.
The only "face" that appears in connection with dog is that of a Man.
