“Can you feel this?” She asked, as she caressed his cheek, her cool fingers gliding over his feverish skin.
He nodded, his pale flesh bathed in the moonlight. A thin sheen of sweat making his face glisten in the evening mist. A flush of color rushed to his cheeks as the lady in white circled around him.
“Oh, I wish that every night could be like tonight.” She slipped around behind him, wrapping her slender arms around his chest, holding him close.
“I do, too,” he croaked, his voice thick with tears. He tried to be happy, but he knew that this moment would be fleeting just like all the others. He closed his eyes, turning towards her to press his burning lips to hers.
A breath of chill air caressed his lips. A smell of rot and peppermint, and he was alone at the graveside once more.
