Considering that the majority of the Galar region is based on England and Ireland it surprised me that there's no reference to the renaissance aristocracy, I.E., weight = wealth. Back when famine ravaged europe from 1845 to 49, prosperity meant having enough to buy or own food, and to eat well (this included both humans and their pets alike). The rich could eat in excess, guaranteeing themselves their status and "good health". In accordance to their owners, pets such as leopards, monkeys, and dodos (Yeah, this is part of the reason why they're extinct now) were also fed greatly as to reflect the wealth and status of their owners.

A small minority of Galarian pokemon trainers (Specifically those who are either affluent or wealthy) follow the trend of spoiling their pokemon and feeding them to the point of obesity. It's been rumored that there are supposed private clubs that host "Portly Pokemon contest" which bares strong similarity to the average Pokemon contest, however a major difference is the smaller audiences and the addition of a weighing segment which consists of comparing the contestant's weight with the standard weight of their established type. There have also been rumored that the gatherings are held in private lots or private islands located in international waters.

Each pokemon teams are identified with small temporary markings on their bodies such as: red hearts, blue crescent moons, green stars, ect. The gigantic grookey, rubenesque rapidash, and stout Sirfetch'd are all on the same team.
