Run Free, Old Friend
It’s been almost a month and it’s still so hard to write about...
Last month, on Valentine’s Day, we said goodbye to our dear corgi, Bullitt. Sixteen years had taken their toll on his poor body, and while his spirit was still willing, his many health issues had finally gotten the best of him. When he could no longer walk, we knew it was time to let him go. So together, Akela and I held him, told him what a good boy he was, that he was the best dog ever and we loved him and would never forget him, and stayed until his spirit slipped free.
Freed from an aged, broken body, he can run free across the Rainbow Bridge and be with his kitty brother again.
It’s been a very hard few weeks adjusting to life without my pupper. Bullitt was with me through some of the most difficult parts of my life, and was there for the best parts of it too. I had him before Akela came into my life, and I am happy that he got to share Bullitt’s days with me. But sixteen years of habit is a hard thing to break, and I find my days still feel empty. Our household routines have changed and the household is awkward at best. The cats are starting to settle into the new routine, and with time, I know I will too. It’s going to be a long, long time before I’m ready to love another dog.
But Bullitt, I miss you buddy. I will always miss you. Run free, old friend, and I’ll see you at the Rainbow Bridge.

So sorry for your loss. I had to say goodbye to my corgi, Jessie, almost exactly three years ago. I still miss her deeply.
