It really is a niche book, I'd be extremely surprised if anyone recognised it!
It's "How to Think Like a Mathematician" by Kevin Houston. It was recommended reading for undergraduates studying maths, so not really something you would read on a rainy day. (But I could see Sylvia doing it!)
