Back in October, th Skwirl and I visited the Strasburg RR, to see the famous visiting Celebrity locomotive, The Huge N&W 'Pocahontas' Class #611.
As much fun as I had seeing the Great 611, and N&W sister 475, I also enjoyed the lesser stars in SRR's very nice show. They would be the regulars... 89, 90, Thomas, et al. I quite liked the EMD diesel switcher, 8618.... (I got a soft spot for small-block 567's. I sound like a chevy nut, eh?)
One of those lesser stars is this 15-inch (38cm) 1920 vintage Cagney amusement park train. I fell in love with it...
As a Hagerstown native, I knew about the nearby amusement park that the Western Maryland Railway owned, at Pen Mar. It was very popular from the 1880s thru to the 1930's. They had a small amusement RR there, and as far as I have researched, they had a Cagney loco, very much like this one.
I love small railroads. This is the best. It has every element of real railroad in it, down to the cinder-in-the-eye. Just not as Glamourous, or as Massive.
The wife took pix of me riding this Liliput... The smiles rival those taken on the big trains.
BTW I can post pics of my SRR visit with steam suparstars, just ask. My pix ain't that spectacular tho.

The photo reminds me of when I used to spend time with the Cinder Sniffers, a 1 1/2 inch scale club in SE Indiana. My neighbor in Cincinnati used to take me over for meets.
I used to chase the J when the NRHS ran excursions through here and western NC in the '90's, and was fortunate to ride behind her a few times. I happened to get lucky and sat in her cab for an hour talking to the fireman during an overnight layover. I haven't seen her since they got her active again.
