You know, my most recent experience with Mystery Dungeon was Gates/Infinity....and that was pfft...years ago. Didn't beat the story yet. Maybe go back to it one day, but I guess the whole process kind of drains on me.
Thought you liked dungeon crawlers?
Eh, kind of. I guess it's the formula of this series. Having a huge team roster with different moves is nice and all...but I think it's the crawling itself...it's literally a CRAWL. You're either going through square (or rectangular) rooms or single-march paths. While I do think the story seems to be ok, I think it's the bulk that needs changing.
Oh?
Yeah, let it be more tactical, like FF Tactics or something. Oh! Or, more on point, like how Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter did it. Have an environment (full 3D) that you can run around it...with enemies around. Get close to one and PETS kicks in...that is, things can switch to a board-like layout for combat. Turns occur, you move, do stuff, you know the jist.
I guess that WOULD be more interactive...
I get there's some limitations with handheld hardware and all, but since they're going console, they can finally up the game, literally. I mean trudging through the same set up with a different color pallet is, well, boring. So add a bit more freedom eh?
Well, maybe with the console innovation, they'll start taking it into that step.
Maybe improve the original Pokemon Games a bit more too...but then again, they are formulaic heh.
.....you know...Makuhita DOES look like Cartman...
I KNOW right? Take away the bib, the circle blush, the gloves, and any indication of wanting to work out...resemblance is uncanny...

The reason why it's like that is not because of restrictions but it's a roguelike. It's not an RPG. It's been like this since the first mystery dungeon game. It's been like this since Rogue. This game is the most basic game in the MD franchise (though I heard Etrian may be worse). Basically, it isn't gonna change since Rougelikes are the most set in stone games. BTW rougelites are the new term for stuff like Enter the Gungeon, Spelunky, etc, cuz they mainly share the idea, but not the structure.
