Contra: Bass Boss
Reuploading this because I can. Probably works best with headphones.
Made this quite a while ago using a not so great MIDI editor. It's my rendition of the Base Boss music from Contra, which I consider to be one of the greatest boss themes in all of gaming.
For comparison, here's the track as it appears on the NES: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bzlSWbw7Nc
Let me know if it's any good.

Very good, then. It's good that the code still works to be accessible to new players. I'm a veteran Run n' Gunner so I haven't used the code in quite some time. I've got no-death-completions for Contra, Super C, and Operation C under my belt.
If you're a big fan of Run n' Gun games like that, there's a new one out called Blazing Chrome that seeks to mimic the gameplay of Contra: Hard Corps with that same 90's look and sound. It does a very good job of it although I found certain aspects of it frustrating such as the dodge roll control.
Another run n' gunner worth checking out is Valfaris, the sequel to Slain. Both games are heavily influenced by heavy metal concepts, featuring a metal soundtrack and protagonists with long hair who headbang when they're pleased. Also very, very bloody. The visuals in Valfaris are great. Blazing Chrome is more recognizably 'contra' but I actually liked Valfaris better.

I think they're both on multiple consoles but they can be played on Switch.
Blazing Chrome got a limited physical release but it was an open pre-order so it's not as rare as some other limited games.
Valfaris got a fairly standard release and should be available on Best Buy or Amazon.
And of course both are in the eShop.

Cool, nice to hear that one of my many suggestions on how people should live their lives was actually taken. As I said, it's a very good take on that genre and undeniably fun, though some of the stuff about it kind of ticked me off. I really had that you have to push down and jump to do the invincible dodge because so often in a game like that you want to jump immediately out of a crouch, and you just end up screwing yourself. Plus most games like that would make down and jump the button used to slip down from a platform so it makes you think that's gonna happen and then you roll yourself off a cliff. I would have greatly preferred that the button for dodging was set to the triggers, and would go in the corresponding direction of the trigger you hit. The only reason I can think of for why they didn't do that is so that they could technically claim that the current control scheme would have been possible on a SNES controller thus being more truly oldschool. And I admit, their commitment to being authentic to the nostalgic vibe is perhaps where they shine brightest.
Sorry for that rant. I liked Valfaris better but as I said it's not as similar to Contra, it's more like its own brand of Run n' Gun. If Chrome doesn't finish scratching the itch it might be worth picking up a copy of Valfaris, provided you're into heavy metal, blood, and absurd difficulty (though unlike Blazing Chrome, Valfaris uses a unique checkpoint system where you can choose to spend talismans at checkpoints to return to if you die and there are many in a given level. If you choose to keep the talisman instead, they increase your life bar).
