Well it’s now Saturday at Texas Furry Fiesta 2020, and I finally got Bouncing Kalamcans 3 completed. I decided to use a backdrop from a photo that I took at the con. So far things have been pretty good other than I’m not all that impressed with the power block that I bought for my tablet, which went dead with in a half and hour, and this thing is supposed to be able to jump cars off. I will give it another chance, and if I’m still not satisfied I will return it.
This is the first con that I have gone to that I didn’t seek out a table in either the dealers den, or at the artist alley. A friend of mine and I went to a Gray Muzzle panel, which was another first for me, and heard some interesting things, like one on my friends list has a PhD. She probably finds my postings quite interesting. The reason why I didn’t seek a table this year was because the hotel rooms at the main hotel were all booked the same day that it opened, and because I wasn’t staying near there, I figured it would be too much of a hassle of trying to make it here early everyday and halling all that crap around in maybe to make $20 if lucky. I remember the days that I used to be able to pull in over $2K. The other thing is that it is rumored that this is the 5 largest furry con in the country.
One of the things that was discussed was that furry fandon has outgrown us long timers. I have been part of fandom since 1989, and from then and now it has changed a lot, and there are several sub groups to it that I can’t think of them all. It makes me feel like Burgess Meredith as the Obsolete man. The 10 year gap that I took away from cons, a lot of things have changed. Example, I still remember the artist alley being where you have these furs that drew furry characters in black sketch books, and sold prints. Now it seems like it has become and over flow from the dealers room, other words it seems like you must sell some product like…, well you name it. Yes I do have some ideas for products, but the hard part is to implement them.
One of the things that really wasn’t talked about was the fade out. I know that I’m going to get those who say that isn’t so, but it’s a matter of opinion. Then again I have base my info on social media from things like, well likes. Then again I get my synergy from people liking my art. When I work hard on a piece and maybe get a hand full of likes, and at times it makes me feel on what is the point of drawing. Well I really enjoy the art, and I just forget that the person that I need to make happy first with my art, is myself.
Way back when I got into fandom till when I took a break away from the con seen, fursuiting was really a thing, then again neither was the me-me movement. Yes there were fursuits, but most of them were crafted by the same people who were wearing them.
I know not all think and act like this, because I know many cool people with some quite fancy fursuits. Getting back into the swing of things of 2014, I felt out of touch when I see those who think that they are Elitist because their fursuit was made by so or so, and if you don’t have one maid by them, you can’t be part of our little group. If that is the way they feel and if they are happy, go for it. It just reminds me of the days of showing rabbits or other animals. I really didn’t fit into that scene, because how dare someone who raises a few rabbits take high rewards vs one that has a big fancy set up. Then again it seems like the bigger the animals, the more snootier one gets. I’ve heard that when it comes to fancy horses and rodeo competition you basically have to be born into it.
At the same time as the con is going on, there is a cheerleading competition going on at the convention center across the way. Some of the rah-rah parents are staying at the same hotel as ours which is about 10 miles away from the con. I over some of them complaining how inbread we were. I don’t know if they were talking about the furs, or Texans in general. I don’t know if it was because of watching too much reality TV that led to that comment, but I realized it wasn’t worth snapping on then.
As big as this con is, there still seem to be a lot of loaners. As big as this con is, you would think there would be someone to talk to.
Like I said earlier. This is the first con other than CF0 & 1, I didn’t go to make a sales pitch. I’m here to enjoy, talk to old friends, and meet new people.
I'll report more later on.

At least you are trying lots of new stuff this time to change things up. Sounds like you're doing pretty good. Funny you say the hotel was booked the first day rooms opened. I just went to the website Friday morning and rooms were still available. I did everything short of putting in a credit card to make sure.
