Well, I don't know what you think depressing is, but this sounds rather happy to me :P
Still can't quite make out the vocal part (at least its replacement) do you have it as part of the inner harmonic "voices"?
Well, it was nice to listen to, but really didn't give me any sort of sad feeling, maybe you'll have to use softer dissonances and more minor progressions in later pieces~ though it may just be the lack of words, either way nice work~

Yeah, I have never really had a good handle on chord progression or chords in general until recently.

Actually, what makes it depressing is the lyrics. But you just plain aren't getting the full picture without them. Suffice it to say I still try my best, even without the help of the one thing that tends to set the mood. xd
