maybe a little gift for myself?
I had a new nationalist boomer uprising and I got invested in Argentina's federalist party history again, so I thought about treating myself some art while I studied
during argetina's war of independence, Guemes, one of the most important military leaders, decided to organize a national militia of gauchos to defend the northeast frontiers of the country. the organization was very spontaneous, and the gaucho's tactics were similar of a guerrilla war. skilled in horsemanship and with a great terrain knowledge, they had a advantage against spanish royalist forces. they moved in groups of twenty men leaded by one commander, were exclusively cavalry force, didn't wear any uniforms and kept their light traditional clothes, preferred to attack with machetes rather than the sables used by regular armies, and had some unexpected tactics like nocturnal attacks with quick withdrawals so exhaust the enemy, sacking as much as they could.
the militia disappeared after Guemes' death during the independence war, but the presence of the warrior gaucho was still strong. gauchos were now an active part of the Argentine Confederation's military and policial forces; their figure celebrated and considered an ideal of patriotism.
The federal gaucho nowadays is seen as kind of ''evolution'' of the traditional gaucho, always depicted in art wearing a phrygian hat, bright coloured ponchos or vests, accompanied by their horses, with their typical carefree posture, but always armed and alarmed, ready to attack whenever necessary.
