this is true but you dont need every lens money can buy, they just make the task easier...i was the same way when i started learning.
i have lenses that were made from the days of film that can outperform some of todays digital body lenses.
and i have the same camera you do.
the only lens that really has a single specific task that others cant is a macro lens, even then they can be used for other types of shooting, other than that most lenses are all around lenses.

Uh... the best lens in the universe to photograph dogs is a 80mm lens. You have to get used to the "not zoom" thing but past that its quite easy to take good pictures. Its because its a light zoom and so you have more playground and dont have to run after the dogs nor have to get very near them.
Do not go over ISO 200 for best quality, try to play with the shutterspeed[high speed(minimum 600-800) = no motion blur] and a open blend "1.8 with the 85mm" allthough I think I had it on blend 2 or 3 to get a bigger part of the picture sharp. You are able to make quite awesome pictures if you just put your cam on Manual and play with Blend and Shutterspeed.

yeah, that new Nikon D3X has got me drooling though, but the new Canon 1Ds MK IV has nicer stuff, even if it is bulkier and not as ergonomic.
ive also been looking at a nice 6.5mm fisheye. the 4.5mm from sigma would be super nice but i cant afford that price tag. ive also been looking into that 100-400 that canon has, would be a good addition for when i go to sporting events and for the wildlife.
although right now my canon is bastardizing a nikon 50mm from the days of film thanks to my adapter i have for it.

Nice indeed.
Im not such a big fan of the D3x actually. I like things that "WORK" and are not overpriced. The Pictures I take wouldn't be better because of the cam. Sure it has a CMOS chip and better grain reduction and such but you cant use the DX lenses on it properly and with good light and the same conditions you couldn't tell with which I have made the picture.[Well Full scale you would because of the difference in the CCD and CMOS but not in the resized pictures] The difference? like.. 7000$? *shakes head*
If I buy a expensive cam it'll be the Hasselblad H3D "50"
