They ended up with a decent price - and, really his opening offer was low-ball but not ridiculous. Does he know something about the place that they don't - like it's built over a cache of Civil War gold buillion?
Either way I wonder if he becomes a recurring or supporting character down the way. He's the first 'outside' character I can think of who's become part of the plot so far.
