So, yeah. If you watch NBC Nightly News, you might've seen a report about an almost completely empty and unused airport in the St. Louis Area (on the Illinois side) that, although a very modern airport, remains to this day unused for any sort of passenger flight. Originally intended to alleviate air traffic congestion around the primary airport in St. Louis, Lambert Field, this... just didn't work. Right now it's only really being used as a spare runway for Air Force planes at the nearby Scott AFB and a shipment of flowers from, like, Ecuador once a week.
But hey, it makes prime opportunities for urban explorers and photographers who obsess over abandoned buildings! Like myself! XP This is the view from the parking lot.

My guess is the former... it seems more likely, IMO. It was about an hour drive away from downtown St. Louis, so my guess is that they felt it would be too inconvenient for passengers. I really don't know the entire reason as to why it's unused, but the news report about it, from what little I remember, said that it had something to do with that... I think.
I should find that report and find out...
