FINALLY!

I finally got around to making a proper ref for my main fursona!! Calico cats are very fascinating to me. Did you know that almost all calico cats are female? This has to do with the way that coat colors are bound to the sex chromosomes in cats. Orange coat color and black coat color are both bound to X chromosomes, resulting in patchwork expression of both colors in female cats (who have two X chromosomes). This means that the only male calico cats have an extra X chromosome (they are XXY), which results in them being sterile along with a host of other medical issues.

Additionally, calico cats are seen as good luck charms in some cultures. My fascination with color and marking genes and how they can tie into many things aside from appearance has always kept me interested in calicos. Add on that my personality resonates HARD with almost every calico cat I've ever met/worked with, and it made it kindof a no-brainer to pick for my sona. It's kinda a wonder I wasn't just a cat the whole time (but, yeah, the stint as a bison was fun).
