Abatl could apparently detect the flow of aurora in the air. It was a neat trick. It gave her, so she said, a mental map of the area without having to even see all of it. It gave her even so far as a sense of soil quality, of mineral deposits, of spots of good luck and bad luck, which, the little petle insisted, were in fact very real and not a joke, please do not laugh at me Miss Sasfsets.
But she felt here the aurora bending towards an incredible point of gravity.
Like an idiot Sasfsets had decided they should check it out. See what it was.
What harm could come of it?
The air crackled with the electric breaking of aurora.
Pressure like near an Ocean fountain bore down on her ears, on her brain, suffocating her thoughts.
The city wasn't actually abandoned.
Apparently the hwual used to worship auroral beasts.
Which was why Sasfsets got to spend this grainfall aiming a gun at the Radiant and Glorious 11 Meditations of Fecundity.
"The god's outlived its flock here," Sasfsets told Abatl.
Abatl was being super helpful right now and screaming.
"So there's a god still here," she said to Danacha in Brinnesch instead. "Did you know your people used to worship gods like this?"
"Y--Yes," Danacha stammered.
"Do you know this one?"
"No!?"
The Radiant and Glorious 11 Meditations of Fecundity opened its beak, which split with an electric crack, and its voice set the aurora in the air spasming and twisting. The words hummed insensible static in the air but the meaning was burnt directly into the souls of the three poor idiots that were now dealing with this disaster.
"This is an impolite greeting."
Abatl whined and Danacha went stiff and still but this was not, unfortunately, the first time an auroral beast had spoken into Sasfsets' soul, so she was still pretty chill, not counting how bad her hands were shaking as she aimed down the beak of this thing, or how shallow her breathing was, or how hard her heart was pounding. "If I'm impolite and wrong I can apologize," she hissed at it. "If I'm incautious and wrong I can't really take that back, can I?"
"You are impolite and wrong," the Radiant and Glorious 11 Meditations of Fecundity said. "Why are you here, Beast-Ascendant-in-Violet? This is improper. This island is already claimed. You do not have the authority to take it."
Sasfsets took a very hard breath and steadied her aim. Down the center of the head it would still disrupt the cohesion of the beast. This was a really nice gun. It'd still hurt bad. "We--are here on behalf of the Flagmark corporation, who has legal claims to this island. So. There is no--"
The Radiant and Glorious 11 Meditations of Fecundity laughed, which meant the air splintered and burned and Danacha and Abatl screamed in sympathy with it. "What is this? Stop this game, Princess of Lust. Your meatly excuses shame you."
"I am not," Sasfsets said, gritting her teeth until her gums complained, "an auroral beast. I do not. Have to follow your rules. I am here. For. Mortal. Reasons."
"You are not here because the overwhelming heat of your crown spurs you to claim in jealousy what others hold! Hah!" and at that laugh Danacha and Abatl squealed in discomfort again and Sasfsets was tempted to join them. "Then lower your gun and flee, as mortals should do before a god. Ask your collection. I believe they would assert the only sensible choice for a mortal in this situation is flight."
"If I shot you, it would still hurt," Sasfsets said.
"Miss!" Abatl screamed. "We should not be here!"
"Mistress!" Danacha whimpered. "We shouldn't be challenging this one, please!"
"There is a dissonance in your reaction and the opinions of your collection, Princess of Lust," the god said as the air buzzed and burned. A heat of smug satisfaction washed off of the Radiant and Glorious 11 Meditations of Fecundity that made Sasfsets' fur stand on end. "Now why do you think you may disagree with the mortal consensus so?"
"... I'm not well dressed enough to fight a god anyway," she growled, stepping away.

Sasfsets is begrudgingly aware of her name and title, and is very, very unhappy whenever anyone uses either because it implies some alien auroral intelligence is in control of her actions instead of, you know, herself
she should LIKE the Beast-Ascendant-in-Violet part, though, because it means she isn't actually a fully-fledged auroral beast YET
but oh BOY does she hate being called Princess of Lust*
*lust here meaning ambition, wanting, drive, desire, more than just purely sexual lust, but also yes sexual lust

it's the classic story of a girl and her pets doing odd-jobs for the family company because the company can't really fire her because of nepotism even though she refuses to do real work, accidentally stumbling on a god who accuses them of it not being an accident because the girl is in the process of ascending to godhood too and that part of her is compelling her to challenge and conquer which i mean,
story as old as time

sas---f---sets, it's fun to say when you get your tongue around it
yeah but who wants to be called the Princess of Lust to be honest
although some of them have unimpressive names like Kodii (the Demon (who is pretty great and also a Violet-gate god (sasfsets if she ever ascends will do it through the violet gate of ambition)))

so assuming there will be no combat here, do they (meaning her company) write this island off as a loss, or would it be worth it to pay this universe's equivalent of the "ghostbusters" to solve this problem? Sorry if I'm fishing too much for spoilers here, but I guess it's a good question if the minute she gets those 2 back on the ship she feels her inner power-gaming murder-hobo welling up and can't resist the challenge of killing a "god".
i think the next update is going to be her figuring that out and struggling with identifying what her desires are anymore
it's a real struggle becuase it's just YOU, you know
but you has changed to something the old you might not recognize
how do you slow down the change of the self
what if your inner voice just isn't what itused to be what hapens when you realize that
