Kohaku Morishima [森嶋 琥珀 Morishima Kohaku] is a god of animals who finds and seals animal spirits into various items to protect them and humans.
Personality:
Kohaku has a mysterious personality. People find it hard to understand her intentions, but she is open to explain them. She respects people's desires and strength, even if they're her enemies. Despite being powerful enough to cause an invasion against humans, she believes violence is the not answer as she seals away the spirits she exterminates rather than outright killing them, but only acts when necessary.
Ability:
Turning people into animals
By placing the spirit of an animal onto an object, the person who possesses the object can use the animal's ability or turning into an animal themselves. By placing the spirit inside a living being such as a human, the they will be possessed by the animal spirit or will turn into said animal.
Kohaku's ability does not directly allow her to turn people into animals, but can do so once they are possessed by an animal or beast spirit, or have an item that has the spirit sealed inside it. Kohaku states that even a simple touch of a coin can turn one into into an rampaging dragon, so she has most of these items sealed inside temples or burying them somewhere people can't find them. Kohaku is immune from turning herself into an animal as she is a god of animals.
Controlling over animal and beast spirits
Kohaku is shown to be able to manipulate the animal and beast spirits themselves, shown in her spell card attacks. In her spell cards, she summons animal spirits in the field, when upon touching them turns the player into an animal and they are either slow, fast, have their movements reversed and unable to move for one second before turning back to their original forms. However, she has no control over several beast spirits, so she opts to seal them away or kill if they're too aggressive.
Occupation:
Kohaku works part time as a youkai exterminator, but she specifically hunts down animal youkai or spirits. Unlike most youkai exterminators, Kohaku does not kill upon capturing them, instead she seals away the spirit inside various portable items or sends them to the realm of beasts. These items are placed in shrines, museums and temples. If the beast spirit is too dangerous to be placed inside an item, she'll kill it.
Possessions:
Kohaku owns various objects that houses animal spirits and beast spirits. Most notably is her kitsune mask which can turn people into a kitsune upon touching.
History:
There are two types of spirits, animal spirits and beast spirits. Animal spirits are souls of deceased animal that turned youkai or are animals turned youkai. They are harmless and can either trick humans or aid them, but can be abused for their powers when one knows how to deal with the sacred arts. Beast spirits are predatory animals turned youkai or ancient mythical creatures possessing magical ability that allow them to survive after death. Unlike animal spirits, they are dangerous, as they tempt to use living beings as vessels for them to use as bodies. Like animal spirits, beast spirits can be contained for their magical properties.
Kohaku notices these abuse of animal and beast spirits, so she opts to find them first before human sorcerers can find them. She place the animal spirits into items for them to be housed and place them in places of worship, while the beast spirits are sealed and contained away in areas where one can't touch them.
Relationships:
Gregalias
At one point in the past, Gregalias met Kohaku and recommended her youkai extermination so she can easily track down animal and beasts spirits.
Higekiri Ushihime
Kohaku and Higekiri don't get along as both have different views on animals, spirits and humans. Higekiri wants to get revenge on humans for killing animals, while Kohaku wants piece between them and only acts when necessary when the animals became too aggressive.
Tonalli Nahua
Tonalli tries to talk his way into becoming allies with Kohaku, but Kohaku knew his true intentions and normally avoids him.
The player
Kohaku meets the player sometime after the Parasite Incident where the two fought in a spell card duel after accusing Kohaku to be related to the incident, due to her animal transformation abilities. Sometime after their battle, Kohaku and the player are in good terms as Kohaku demonstrates her ability to the player and aiding them finding and distinguishing animal spirits or parasites disguised as beast spirits.
