btw, what is the point of badges at cons?

Mood badges exist so that you can let people know how you're feeling (they can't see your face behind that foam head).

Conbadges are drawings of people's fursonas. If you're not wearing a suit, it's how other people will know your species and appearance. If you are wearing a suit, it's how other people will know what to call you.

The third kind of badge is the convention's registration badge. You'll need one of those if you want to get in. :3
