Cryselia kneeled within a tree amidst many in the forest, sharp claws digging slightly into branch beneath her feet as she took in the world around her. Her eyes were closed, well, that wasn’t completely true, her left and right eye, lay shut, but her middle one, sat open atop her head. It blinked, lids closing to the center of her forehead before opening once more, as the world around her seemed to softly shimmer in the light of the sun. The day was overcast with fog, but her magical eye, didn’t really care. It saw the world around her in pulsing vibrant colors, the mana of the world glowing softly within its vision, her vision encompassing all around her form. She could see all, and yet, her mind was the limitation. She could only process chunks at a time, bits and pieces of what her eye wanted her to see. That was why she was here, training, learning. She wanted to master, she wanted to see all she could, all she should be able to see. Her eye flashed a soft emerald light, as she tensed, her body shifting, trying to get a clearer picture. Her vision would expand, more and more, before it would collapse, falling back to neutral as she’d grunt and huff in frustration.
She needed, to do as her master taught her, she needed, to empty her mind.
She had been so distracted as of late, focused, driven, but distracted. Her mind had shifted from the open view of to that of a single point, and while it brought her more clarity, it also dulled her vision. She had noticed it before, against the Gargoyles, each fight, always something she didn’t notice, and it was starting to creep into her hunts to. A tree she hadn’t seen as he was running after a deer, a branch she had misjudged the distance as she leaped through the trees.
Her mind was getting clouded, complacent, she was too dead set on what she aimed for, to driven to find the end goal with no thought as to the path between.
Its what had gotten her captured, its what might have gotten her killed, if they hadn't found a use for her.
But it was this sort of thinking that made her so distracted, she couldn’t keep a clear mind with the knowledge that she had failed, and might fail again. Her mind constantly taking up space from the world as she worried and thought about what might be, a hand moving from her bow to her forehead as she groaned and grunted as she tried to force the thoughts away, only for them to come back with even more.
It was then the emerald green flashed with an orange glow, and she suddenly heard her master in her ear.
“Think not of what has been, think not of what can be. Breath, pull back, look, and release. The emerald eye only lets you see what is in the present, what is in the now. Embrace it, understand it. There is plenty of time for worry before, there is plenty of time for worry after.
But in the moment, breath, pull back, look, and release.”
A soft smirk appeared upon Cryselia’s face, “thanks master…” she said softly, her hand moving from her head to the drawstring of her bow.
She rose from her kneeling position, legs righting themselves against the thick branch, as she sighed, and breathed in deeply. The Emerald eye upon her head blinked, and flashed with an orange/emerald light, as her hood softly feel from the back of her head. Her long hair billowed out into the wind, but Cryselia didn’t care.
She pulled back the string of her arrow, an orange cascade of energy dripping from her fingers, flowing over the bow into a firm, tight point, coalescing against the tip into a fine arrow, then a larger bolt, forming into a long almost spear like point.
And as Cryselia breathed, and her eye flashed open, the world around her shone bright amidst the foggy day. A full 360 view of the world around her, as far out and crystal clear as she could see. She found her target, adjusted the head slightly, and in a soft voice, stated.
“Release.”
The arrow let fly, an orange trail of energy pulsing behind it in flight, before it disappeared into the treetops.
And as her vision feel once again back down to the narrow point of focus, the smile widened against the raptor-kobolds face.
As she stared at a deer, layed out against the forest floor.
With an arrow sticking perfectly between its eyes.
