Then if you do try to indulge them, I'd bet dollars to donuts that they're extremely passive and passionless, because they're using it as a substitute for normal human conversation while doing other things. It's a bit like asking someone to help you cook a meal, expecting them to do most of the work, and not even wanting to actually eat the food since you're making it just for the sake of making it.
