If you are the new guy in the settlement you have to be a bit careful at first.
After greeting your new neighbours and moving into your new home, there are some way more important things to do:

Getting in touch with the nature.
Listening to the emotions the wind whispers caressing through your fur.
Feeling the stories the ground tells you with each step of your paws.
Looking into all the faces the water under you has seen before.
Breathing in the wisdom of the weathered woodplanks on the house fronts.

And the most important thing:
Talking to the spirit of the village and hoping he welcomes you warmly!
