Started this off as just a quick art of Sonic curled up in fear. I had two ideas, one of him recoiling from Sonic '06 and Unleashed, or something...darker. I decided to do a bit of both.
This only took a few hours and I started it after being frustrated with an overly detailed piece of art I was doing using unfamiliar tools, so I went with something else entirely different for a while, namely this. Despite being influenced heavily by the Sonic style and being a fan, I haven't really given the main 'hog much limelight and even here I've not exactly been kind.
Here's hoping Sonic 4 will make up for it all...There, there Sonic...

(edit2: o.O' How did this become my 3rd most viewed art so quickly!? This is nothing special, although, granted, it is probably better than the 2 submissions that have more views than it. Still, it's a shame that most of the art I put lots of time into and pour my soul into tend to be ignored. Not saying I didn't work hard on this, but I'd hardly call it one of my best or most important works.)
(edit3:...okay, seriously, stop viewing and +faving this and check some of the other stuff that is either better, more original, took a lot more effort on my part or ended up with me pouring my soul into the art. This would quite easily be my most viewed if it wasn't for my ancient Falcon Punch animation...which really doesn't deserve <300 views or to even be in the top 5. I have plenty of pieces I spent a long time on or devoted myself to that are seeing more dust and neglect than my bedroom >.<)

Hey, Unleashed isn't that bad. =/
The Werehog idea is crap but when I play Sonic sections, running at full speed, in 3D AND 2D, knocking everyone out from beautiful locations, fighting in epic boss battles, I think "Now THIS is a Sonic game!!".
Of course there are negative sides like no spindash and length of werehog stages, but COME ON, people, have you forgotten how to love something about the game instead of hating everything else?

This piece was entirely a joke (hence the lack of him recoiling from one game that is bad, Sonic '06) when it comes to the game involved, with the series element being more of Sonic being afraid of his inner darkness as seen by some of his forms (e.g. Dark Super Sonic in the Sonic X anime, Darkspine Sonic from Secret Rings and of course, the Werehog)
I happen to be a fan of Unleashed and even the werehog segements were, in my eyes, not all that bad. The main outrage is not due to them sucking, but rather because they feel wrong in a Sonic game with Sonic as the only playable character. The Sonic segments are the best I've seen in any recent Sonic game, 2d or 3d and had Unleashed been entirely the Sonic segments (and more of them) it would have easily been the best 3d game in the series, besting even the Adventure games.
As such this a bit of a shout-out to how Sega are always doomed to be unable to please the Sonic fandom, as it is one that is so divided that what one group could see as pure gaming perfection the others will take huge offence to. The recurring "SEGA" in the background is a reference to how Sega will always be seen in the eyes of their fans as idiots meddling and making a hash of things because the fans cannot be pleased...and it also shows some of my own disapproval for Sega abusing their characters, releasing numerous collections and ports as well as spin-offs and poorly thought-out sequels with one-off characters.
And as for learning to love aspects of the game rather than hate it all based on one element, I'm proud to say I thoroughly enjoyed Secret Rings, for example, despite the at times flawed controls and how painful some of the game's missions were. I appreciate you taking the time to comment and apologise if it seemed that I was simply making fun of Unleashed and was being another hater.
