Ahhhh fek. Finished the sculpture and I'm on the last step of adding texture and I'm struggling here guys. I made the fur texture too heavy. He looks more like an Elk than a Dik-dik. Fek...

Haha that's where the problem lies. I'm having ~issues~. I'm still relatively new to Monster Clay, an oil/wax based clay that doesn't dry or bake- you have to cast it, it's an intermediary medium unlike Sculpey which I'm more familiar with. Sculpey is a finished medium, you bake it and it's done. With Sculpey I know how to smooth it, my fav method being with a little Sculpey Softener on a brush. Monster Clay you can do the same thing. Using Mineral Spirits. Except... I'm in CA and Mineral Spirits are banned. Naptha works too!... except it's also banned in CA. Or Isopropyl Myristate! Which I can get! Except... it may cause silicone inhibition so I can't use it till I test it out on both my silicones to make sure they'll cure. So I'm left with heat smoothing (basically melting it slightly with a heat gun, which is about as imprecise and mushy as it sounds) and smoothing with tools/fingers, which is not quite giving me the results I'm looking for. I'm struggling just a little bit on smoothing haha.
