TwitterWhen animals considered to be "prey" by the apex predators of the world begin to band together for safety, where does it leave those caught in between?
Namely, a pair of pine martens, carnivores and flesh-eaters themselves, but small enough to be considered food for the bears, wolves and gluttons of the forest and field. They're on a journey to seek sanctuary with the rabbits, squirrels and other prey that have gathered to Oren--but they don't know if welcome or condemnation will meet them.

its probably meant to be yellow bronze - it has more zinc than usual and less tin.
however since this comic likes to be weird, it might as well be simply gold (with some minor additions) - it makes damage-able weapons, it is too soft to be used brutally (would explain why animals here sit in the mountains and are comfortable with defense, but are not wandering around much), it makes good enough daggers and spear ends but bad swords( would simply bend after short use).
also would make sense that Orens forge is unique compared to other animals who maybe use fire in this world, as it maybe sits on top of gold ore
and gold needs much less temperature to melt compared to others, allowing such a fireplace based forge instead of requiring complex forge with bellows and other stuff.
I vote its dirty gold.

I a guessing the choice of weaponry to be a mindset.. spears and javelins are simple things (along with clubs) and a spear has reach (and the skilled may throw it too)... as well as working as a staff to help on inclines (possible source, an existing tool).. adding "teeth" to it might be just the easy and logic choice...
..adding teeth to the end a club (mace / morningstar) or along the edge (aztec "sword") may work yet uses many teeth, where it is more effective to have as many spears instead..
..for the defensive part, they are mainly herbivorous and prey, (asside from Hemlock and similar) they would rather defend their area then go out of their way to hunt others..
so.. bronze.. yellow bronze.. dirty gold.. or some unspecifyed or fantastical alloy is less important if all else (the setup around it) works... and for me it all makes sense..

and yet we were thinking about real life elememts, juat to have more immersive reading.
it makes sense for us.
ill bet on gold. it is requires more primitive technology and is somewhat more poetic, than these rabbits having hardcore industry for bronze production. Beonze was developed mainly for advanced weapons and farming, neither of which seems to be the focus of the herbivores.
p.s. i still wait for wolverines to just pour in, be absolutwly immunie to small spears, and save the day, starting a new grand era of predators.:p

I think it's also gold because of the low melting temperature. Also, since gold is really heavy and usually found as small grains or nuggets, it's somewhat easy to separate it from the soil just by panning.
I doubt that Oren was the first to use fire, but he may have been the first to notice that some kinds of soil (gold) melt from the heat. Gather enough of that special soil, and melt it into a mold, and it will harden in the shape of the mold. And that's how Oren do.

so likely gold or gold+something, eh..
I was foccusing more on the spears (teeth) then material... more of my GM worldbuilding since I know nothing about metal... thus I deffer to both of ye on the gold thing..
..maybe on next page Oren will speak more about this "metal" and shed some light to their "teeth"

I somehow guess that Oren sees already the end result of what Hemlock is wanting to do with that weapon, cause that rabbit wants to bring the fight to the Predators not defend their hovel with it. She is crazed on revenge (her back story might be interresting how she became so despiseful and accumulated so much hatred). I would even suspect that Oren let's Razz stay with a bit of backstabbing against Hemlock now so that she can't rill up the others to her cause. Because he was still against it when he arrived, but now he seems happy with that decision after Hemlock had that rage filled rant on page 88.
It took me a minute of thinking to myself "Who's Razz?" before I realized you were talking about Rask, lol.
But yeah, Hemlock definitely has a backstory that explains her 'anger issues' when it comes to predators. Does it justify how she's treating Rask? Personally, I say no, because of several key points:
1. He followed Sibyl's (the porcupine) instructions to bring the ember while caring for it and keeping it safe and burning.
2. He's trying to escape the same thing that they all are; predators trying to kill and eat him.
3. He's already shown a willingness and aptitude for finding his own source of food (his trick for catching the fish) that isn't any of them.

So, it only took 117 pages of "Oren's Forge" for us to see Oren's forge.
I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I wasn't expecting a small forge in a small den where just Oren worked. In other words, I wasn't expecting Oren's forge to be only Oren's forge.
I suddenly find myself interested in learning about cave paintings. There's a lot to look at on this page, it makes me wonder what I've missed.

I'm guessing some animals would've had flint just as small cutting tools or maybe wedged into the end of a stick as a crude spear. But flint can be fragile and also may be so common that everyone just recognizes it as stone. I may be wrong, but I don't recall seeing twine or string or leather bands to tie flint to anything anyway. Maybe these animals skipped a couple stages of technological development since they didn't need to make clothing to protect their skin from the elements.
true flint tools are strong and they hold an edge and are sharper then a scalpel but they chip and break. Copper and bronze don't break but they dull easy but can be heated and work hardened into a serviceable cutting tool also they where made into mirrors and of course arrow points... they where better because of there recycle ability. flint tools had to be made on site and replaced when broken... look at North America they went from the stone age to the Iron age in the space of 350 years they found obsidian cores in writing on stone park that where 200 years old.... this is a giant leap forward did anyone see quest for fire? this Anthropoid story set around that time maybe 100 years after.
that might work but getting them to stay in did you ever see George Washington's teeth? they where ivory and Lead with iron springs... https://www.livescience.com/61919-g.....-not-wood.html
