The Gray ones may be a slave to the force, as are the sith to seeking power and the Jedi to their politics and overly careful rules

Yeah, 'tis the problem for all force users. Though the grey Jedi also are kinda cowards. Seeing the failings of both sides and often doing nothing about it except removing themselves from the picture.

I do get that, I guess that would make me more of a rogue Jedi, fighting for the light and what I believe is right but using whatever abilities I saw fit

Then you'd likely try to remain detached until someone you care about is at risk, and your passion turns you to embracing the dark side. It seems there's no real winning with using the force, so you might as well just go crazy x3
