For a little while I mulled over the idea of an alternate universe where Caine and Ruby were more animal-like, and Ruby was an adventurer. Caine kinda just follows her around and makes sure she doesn't get too hurt and when he fails, he takes care of her. She probably got into a fight she wasn't 100% prepared for.
