A great game, indeed.
I'm not sure if I first played Descent in 1996 or 1997, but I do remember it being included with our very first Power Mac, a rather low-end Macintosh Performa 6360. Unlike the MS-DOS and Windows 95 versions which used a MIDI soundtrack, the Mac version was a CD-ROM that combined computer programming with CD audio. My brother and I played the heck out of it, and when we wanted to listen to the music without playing the game, we'd put it in my brother's CD player. Fun times. ^^
