The only surviving remnant of the medieval palace is the gabled Westminster Hall, which is where Guy Fawkes was tried in January 1606 for the Gunpowder Plot he participated in the previous November.
At the left, surrounded by scaffolding, is Elizabeth Tower, housing the famous Big Ben bell. At the right is Victoria Tower, housing Parliamentary archives. Both towers were named for the Diamond Jubilee of their namesake queen.
