Originally a townhouse for the Duke of Buckingham, it was acquired by George III for his wife and subsequently enlarged. After her ascension, Queen Victoria made it the London residence of the British monarch, which it remains to this day. The original East front, built during Victoria’s reign, was remodeled to its present form in 1913.
