There are few things in life that a hot bath doesn't fix. Need to relax and unwind? Bad mood? Cold? Got a headache? Bored? Take a bath! I think this works for people of all ages, and even for she-elves who spend all day playing in the forest. n_n
Today is my 38th birthday, and what better way to celebrate than to post some art I made purely to self-indulge, about doing a thing that is rather self-indulgent. lol I started the year feeling good but mentally exhausted. December was a really rough month due to things that happened and 2019 in general was SO busy for me as far as art went. I was doing three personal pieces a month on top of all my commissions, just to keep up with my calendar project and Patreon rewards. I'm really proud of myself for sticking to it and actually finishing it all but damn did it wear me out.
So I decided for 2020, I wanted to really just scale it back and let my personal projects be whatever my soul was asking for. No timeline, no goals really. Just whatever came to mind that sounded fun. To start with, I thought more pictures of Luthien would be nice, some slice-of-life types where she's just doing various things in her forest home. First of all, it would be nice to draw her more often, since she is my main 'sona and rarely gets the attention she should. Second, it would be a good excuse to play with backgrounds, especially forest settings. I'm trying to work in a more stylized feel for them and the more I do it without having to adhere to any specifications (such as in a commission) the better I'll get at trying new shapes or designs because I won't worry about the outcome so much.
For this particular image I decided on a bathing scene. I'm not really sure why, it just popped into my head and I thought maybe it would be a good metaphor for starting the year with a clean slate. Or washing away whatever last year left on us. I think it's also a good reminder to just take care of ourselves and make sure we balance our busy, stressful lives with moments that allow us to slow down and relax a bit. Get a bath bomb, light some candles, play whatever music you like, and have a good soak.

First and foremost, happy birthday! I hope you have a fantastic day, and here's hoping it will help kick the rest of the year off right! I think taking more time for personal art and just letting yourself draw whatever you please sounds like an excellent idea. I know a steady stream of commissions is necessary if you're gonna make a living with it, but so, too, is feeding the muse, I'd think. And I'm delighted at the prospect of more art of Luthien! She's one of my all time favorite characters, and definitely deserves more love and attention.
Speaking of, this is a gorgeous picture of her. I love the peaceful feeling it evokes, and the little bit of playfulness as she watches the dragonfly perched on her toes. Lucky girl! Dragonflies are such neat little things, and the bright blue is really pretty against her soft grey fur. The background is gorgeous, especially the knotwork decorating the trees flanking her bath, and I really like the piece in the upper left that's so evocative of a stained glass window. The pink roses and the little snail crawling up a vine in the foreground are such neat touches, too. I sometimes think that half the fun of your pictures is finding all the fun little details like that.
Amazing work all around, and thank you so much for sharing your work with us for all these years! I'm very much looking forward to what you might share with us for 2020!

Happy Birthday, Luthien. *hands you a towel*
As pleasant as a bath may be, for me it is not an option unfortunately. I am too tall to comfortably fit into an average bathtub - hence I have to make do with showers, but those are far from being as relaxing.
Either way I hope you are having a wonderful birthday. Please cuddle Morloth for me.
*hugs*
