krystalgazer is on Ambien, and it's hands-down the most expensive medication he takes--that's including all the heart meds he's on. There's no generic, so it's like $200 for a 30-day supply... 
Ugh...the OTC stuff (including melatonin) gives me nasty hangovers. I have a high tolerance for just about everything, but even half a unisom will leave me drowsy for an entire day. Ambien didn't, but I developed a tolerance. I slept a total of 11 hours the week after I stopped taking it.
I can't argue about the "hangovers". If you don't take exactly the right amount, you can feel like crap for at least a couple hours after you wake up.
It's a vicious cycle, but I admit that sometimes I end up taking those downers to get to sleep and then forcing myself awake with energy coffee. :(

I didn't read all the comments (O_O too many! ) so my apologies if this is the four hundredth time you've seen this...
but, yah... ambien will put you down like a brick to the face. ... and then your mate will bitchslap you awake for "sleep humping" them (rather forcefully, in a VERY much X rated way) leaving you confused, and a little bit unsure if you should be amused or ashamed. ... then ten seconds later the brick that is ambien blasts you in the face again, and you're down.
