PlayStation 3 was first released in Japan on November 11, 2006. The initial shipments sold out in Japan and the system seemed to be destined for instant success. But once it hit the rest of the globe, The PlayStation 3 was not as well received as Sony had hoped. It was quite damned expensive, compared to its predecessor.
Even worse – it was expensive when compared to Microsoft’s Xbox, which was cheaper, had a more robust, but paid-for online, service. On top of that, multiplatform games seemed to look and run better on the competition. It really looked like PlayStation was in a spot of bother. But then something changed. Sony released a much cheaper slimmer, PS3. It fixed its online. It focused on exclusive games, and devised the incredible PlayStation Plus service. In the end, the console’s sold around 80 million units to date – around the same as the Xbox, which got a year’s head start.
I was late on getting into the PS3 as I only had Xbox 360 and The Wii also I was contented with just using the PS2 and could play all my PS2 and PS1 games on it as I was not really in the mood to getting into Blu-Ray dreama. In fact to this day I only HAD one Blu-Ray movie and it was Star Wars The Force Awakens so it one time and then donated to the Goodwill thrift store plus there was not many PS3 games I even wanted to get until I was more into The Killzone series so last year I finally gotten some PS3 units and some games dirt cheap from Gamestop online.
There was a total of 13 games was launch with the PS3 and they were,
Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII
Call of Duty 3
Genji: Days of the Blade
Madden NFL 07
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire
NBA 2K7
NHL 2K7
Resistance: Fall of Man
Ridge Racer 7
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07
Tony Hawk's Project 8
Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom

I detest streaming... I miss when playstation used to do native software emulation.
I'd actually love for Sony to rerelease the first fat model PS3 as "Playstation Generations" that runs ps1, 2 and 3 discs region-free.
I'd love it even more if they decided to make relicensed limited reprints of classic games from the 3 generations.
I know it's daydreaming, but I really hate PSNow. Even if Sony does release the PS5 with just PS4 compatibility I'm gonna buy it.
I was gonna buy the PS4 Pro last year, but then came the PS5 rumors, the backwards compatibility talk and I decided to wait. All in all it'll be a better deal for me.
Only dealbreaker for me would be if the PS5 has Skynet as an OS and it retroactively blocks "insensitive" content. But that's a whole other can of worms.

How true about it running everything. I hear it could run Mac OS without an issue. And I also heard that some guy got it to run Windows...8. (I think. Don't think it was 10.) But the OS knew nothing about the PS chip set. So the OS and the hardware found some kind of middle ground. One that made it boot up in around an hour. (Never mind booting up something simple...say NotePad or Solitaire. You'd be waiting all day.)
I had one of those 'fat' models. Sadly, by the end, it had to be run with the cover off and directly under an A/C unit, running at full blast. Those were famous for having used a cooling gel...with an expiration date. It wasn't that the system was really producing 'that much heat'. But, wherever the sensor for heat detecting was...it certainly thought the console was on fire.
