Trained officers can still be people with flaws. For example the character of Karl, while not an officer, was a highly trained, highly disciplined soldier from an elite special forces unit. That didn't stop him from being and arrogant, overly aggressive, borderline psychotic and a homicidal homophobe.

If it doesn't affect real people, you should ask the question why characters should be affected.
I mean, myths are mostly too strong and recent written work covers real people and real people can be strong too, having only little good or negative traits.
