Very true, Katherine is clearly doing anything to antagonize and demonize Zoana. As for Elle, she is too good natured for her own well-being.
With the past hanging over Katherine like this, she should not even be allowed in any kind of involvement in such a trial anyways. It was a bad call on the side of those who made such a decision.

In the defense of those staging the test (aside from Katherine, and why someone so clearly antagonistic was allowed to do more than watch this I don't know), they're making decisions based on assumptions about those seeking to join them, not specific knowledge about Zoana. If they can actually deliver on what they seem to be offering (a safe place to learn, study, and understand things like magic and alchemy), it might be exactly what Zoana needs.
It would also greatly benefit the City, or rather it´s Alchemists and those who study it. She clearly has a far better understanding of the craft then the local Alchemists.
On a positive note regarding the Council Members, it seems that Equine Mage has cought on to Katherine plotting something. The remark regarding that slip of paper and what was written on it was telling allready, but that facial expression after Katherine answered her, that tells me that she was easily able to see right through Katherines lie. And I do hope this will have consequences for our dear Princess.

As bad as the skunk is, that's a pretty harsh statement from Auri. If she clearly was intent on hurting Elle then she wouldn't have desperately tried to save her life. On top of that Zoana even tried to warn her not to drink the potion cause she knew something was wrong. I understand Auri's upset and angry cause her (what I assume to be) sister nearly died again, but this time it was not Zoana's fault. For her to lash out like that to someone who was already demoralized by another on false accusations is just an unnecessary additional punch. So as much as Katherine is a bitch, so is Auri and she has lost all my respect.
I understand that, but that point is mute when Zoana, as I said, tried DESPERATELY to keep her safe from the chemicals that Elle WILLINGLY tried drink. Zoana did not pick Elle, she did not ask her to try it. Elle rushed to drink it without understanding why Zoana was hesitating. Auri didn't even try to stop her either from running to drink it. She just stood there dumbfound as Elle THREW herself at the danger. If she should be turning that anger towards anyone, it should be herself. Instead she takes the copout of blaming someone who was not only innocent, but did what she could to save that loved one.
It was a close call. I don't know about you, but I've seen too many times where the wrong person is blamed for something happening. And a lot of them were the types where it took two or more things to cause the issue. Like here, we have someone doing something foolish with something that 'should' have been safe; if she hadn't done it - or if it had been safe, nothing bad would have happened. And we saw which way her friend went on the blame game.

While I agree it's harsh on Zoana, Auri just saw someone she loved get hurt in close proximity to this person twice now. She's scared and reacting with anger. I get it. Honestly, I can't say I wouldn't act the same in the same situation. I just hope once Auri cools her head she apologizes to Zoana and they're able to make their peace. That'll be the difference between Auri just having a knee-jerk freak-out and being genuinely bitchy.
