I remember a few other villains from from that strip. One was "Simple J. Malarky", who was modelled on Joe McCarthy; while I don't remember the character names, there was a hyena modelled on Spiro Agnew and a bulldog modelled on J. Edgar Hoover (the FBI director, not the former president).
Bless you, sir - and bless the sainted memory of Mr. Kelly. Pogo was probably the first comic strip that showed me how cool anthro characters could look outside of the cartoon world - his art was just so goddamn gorgeous, his characterizations were wonderful.... I'm babbling, I think you got the point.
