Yeahyeahyeah the only reason I'm uploading this is to cry out to the few of those out there that I can:
PLEASE READ the HIS DARK MATERIALS trilogy by PHILIP PULLMAN A.S.A.P. ;__;
Since what with Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter & Narnia Hollywood believes fantasy movies are suddenly a great cash crop to cull, persay. "The Golden Compass", the first book in this series, comes out in film-form sometime next summer. But because of the subject matter in the books, is HIGHLY UNLIKELY to do the series a lick of justice. If it *does* stay true to the original spirit of the series may flying snails rocket out of my ass at that time.
But.
His Dark Materials is unlike all other young-reader fantasy series.
Dude, sorry for spoilers but they're like... on a quest to kill God.
Yeah, *that* God.
I can NOT see an American made movie adaptation of the series capturing the essence of the books at all, for reasons such as that. Hddhh.
So plz everyone go at least to a library/steal the trilogy from your friends/ torrent the eBooks for all I care.
Let not the movie tarnish what love you could yet have for these books! :<

Yes, win.
After the Da Vinci Code and the Passion, there are only two possible outcomes for the movie. Either it'll twisted all to hell to avoid controversy, or it'll be slapped with the blasphemy sticker. Actually, come to think of it, it'll probably get labeled that anyway, no matter how much pussyfooting the screenwriters do to avoid the issue.
Le sigh. Wonderful art regardless.
I loved the books but didn't think he was very fair on religion... I can't remember any details except for the fact that every religious character was slimy or evil. Pullman has some of the most creative ideas I've seen around, though. I've got to admit that the idea of having God be a wisp of an old man was interesting if terribly anti-climactic.
Any other fantasy series you know of worth reading?
I only bought the first one, since the set was expensive, but I just finished it annnnnd everything's clooooosed ;_;``````
Being older now, the bias against religion becomes more prominent, but it doesn't change anything.
The golden Compass and the His Dark Materiol triligy is awesome to the max.
