To those who are wondering, no, I did not do a double feature because it's 2020. Just turned out as a happy accident.
Didn't have as much artwork to draw on here; just the one picture by Fluffy Chew Toy. Little extra info, though, for those who take the time to read the text. Nicole started off as mostly an incidental character; Willy even more so. I developed Nicole as a supportive gal pal and band mate for Taelia, with a personality (like Taelia's) drawing a good deal on my mom and specifically her background in personal and emergency medical care. When I started working on giving Willy a more significant role I actually built his personality off of his name being a play on Wile E. Coyote and made him a wacky DIY type of character. From there he just kind of developed into a partial reflection of me, fictional details aside. Still not sure how that worked out, but I have been working on some side projects concerning him and Nicole, and making him a somewhat goofy genius of improvisation actually works pretty well for their chemistry. Simply put, she is good with rules and controlled situations. He, on the other hand, thrives in chaos. Plus dating a medic comes in really handy if you like to work with power tools and welding torches.
One other detail of interest about this pairing: some of you might be surprised that I paired a wolf with a coyote, since I usually don't cross species lines. Well, at the time I decided on them I was on the fence about the whole interspecies pairing thing. On the one hand I saw some potential for addressing legitimate issues faced by, say, interracial couples. On the other hand, I had been working on multi-race race worlds for a long time and wanted to stick to the ethos that relationships should stay within one's species, especially for sentient creatures. With a little help from my friend HawkTooth I determined that red wolves and Mexican coyotes can freely interbreed even in this world (i.e. their cubs are fully fertile, unlike mules and ligers), so I had found a way around the ethical concerns. To make it even better, conservationists in the real world are bugged about red wolves hybridizing with coyotes because the wolves are endangered, so having the pair face some stigma over their relationship is less of a stretch.
Original picture forthcoming.
