LoL DONE. It's bound in a book now, but the book isn't totally done so I'll just take photos of that once it is. So here are the illustrations.
Assignment: An alphabet book; my subject is mythological creatures, beings, and monsters.
3 weeks, 26 paintings (4.5x6"). Acrylic paints on pastel paper.
The creatures in the books are labeled, but I scanned these before I added those:
Mapinguari
----South American; a two-meter-tall sloth with large claws and a mouth on its stomach.
Naga
----Hindu; entities with an unsettling mixture of cobra and human qualities.
Onza
----Aztec; unnaturally violent and resilient cats with oddly long bodies.
Puca
----Celtic; a faery shapeshifter that is more mischevious than malevolent. It takes humans on wild rides over the land.
Qilin
----Chinese; benevolent creatures which can tread on grass without bending a single stalk. They are fearsome to evildoers.
Roc
----Persian; monstrous birds large enough to carry away and eat elephants.
