In past drawings I've tried of Spike, he's always come across looking rather wolflike, and one person even thought he was a dog once in one drawing. So, I decided to draw his head side-by-side with my regular 'cute' style of drawing a weasel head (more faithful to an actual RL weasel) in order to keep the mean snarly look while actually still looking like a weasel.
It's cluttered with a bunch of notes, mostly to help me when I draw his face again eventually for a new ref. Also gradually working on streamlining his design for drawing him many times for the upcoming comic.

No, he has some ME in him. :P I have one of those noses that has the bony bump in the middle of it so it sticks out from a profile, so I put that on him because he's sorta my 'me' character. Though when Whinge (my old fursona) was a rat, he also had this for the same reason.
And I only draw some rats with the weird nosebridge, and it's a different shape (not a bump, but rather a slight dip where the muzzle meets the head) that's a random toony stylisation. Don't know where I picked it up, but I do to some animals too such as wolves...see here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3398938/

Sorry for the ranty reply...I exaggerated that dip a little too much on my rat avatars on SL (plan to tone it down a bit when I update them because I don't really like how that turned out), and have gotten way too many comments from people about how I gave them my nose or a 'Whinge-rat nose' ._.;
...wait, what? The front shot at the bottom? It's terrible...I even made a note about how the face innately looks wrong from that angle due to how the muzzle is built and that I should avoid it, plus I drew it really sloppily due to just wanting to get it over with...and you think it's better than the others I spent much more time on? Fffff DX
'Muzzles never make sense from this angle, tends to make the face look ROUND AND CUTE, try to avoid this angle!!'
If you can't read my handwriting. It gives the illusion that the muzzle is extremely short, making the face look cute (because shorter muzzles make faces look cuter, it's a universal rule of cute). And this is a BAD thing if you read the description about what I was trying to do. x.x
