I mean, after reading through the thing, JC seems a pretty swell guy. :3

BZZZZZZZT! NO! UNACCEPTABLE!!!
Uh-oh, someone's gonna get an angry email!
Aaaah, my favorite episode!
as if to say
"it's all going to be OK, guys
it's all going to be OK"
Jesus Christ,
Who are you, what have you sacrificed?
Jesus Christ,
Superstar
Do you think you're what they say you are?
Can you imagine this classic Andrew Lloyd Webber song playing in "The Passion"? I think that would make it more bearable to watch that way.
Your next masterwork going to be Jim Jones?
But y'know, browsing through a place with two obese hyper scat-eating hermaphrodite dragons drawn with paint on the website and seeing this after it is quite a contrast!
Also, blocking people after one reply is incredibly shallow, I mean seriously, two replies should be the optimum number before giving judgement.
Cur.
Still, great pic!
Judging by some of your responses to the comments, I'm going to make the assumption that there was a bit of irony to this picture (and not the irony of what the majority of the rest of your gallery is). If I'm wrong, then I apologize. If I'm right, however, I just want to ask... Why? What would be the point?
This really is a beautifully well-done picture, and I can't really see anything ironic about the picture itself. But it's the way you react to others... You're cavalier about offensive jokes and insinuations, even going along with them. If you're willing to do so, then I wonder why you'd bother drawing Jesus in the first place. If it's to show off your abilities, why him? Why not someone else?
When I first saw this picture, I thought, "wow, this is a very nice picture," and I normally don't pay a second glance to anything that isn't like the rest of your gallery. It was honestly nice to see something like this. But then I read your replies, and it's like, "what, is she making fun of him somehow? Is this not as innocent as I thought?" And it upset me...
Like I said earlier, I'm not a Bible thumper, I'm not very religious, and I'm scared of my own religion. But I'm not afraid of Jesus. I do love him, and I do feel defensive of him when someone feels they need to go out of their way to insult him. I could very well be blowing this way out of proportion, and I'd like to apologize if I am, but I just had to get this off my chest.
You could probably counter my reasoning by saying it's not much different from Draw Mohammed Day, or any other source of offensive material, which I suppose I could agree with, but while Draw Mohammed Day really has no effect on me, it still has an effect on others, which includes the non-violent, non-judgmental ones. Please keep in mind that this is not about the picture itself, but the responses to the comments.
It could also be possible that this is a mix of irony and innocence. Even in that case, I don't understand why and where the irony comes from. I'm probably nothing more than just a butthurt, judgmental, Bible-thumping hypocrite to most of the people reading this, if anyone even bothered to read this far, and I'm certain the person this is directed to will never even see this, given that she seems to have been inactive for a long time, but seeing something earlier really made me want to come back here and speak my thoughts. It was a video of a man speedpainting a wonderful picture of Jesus UPSIDE-DOWN, joyfully jumping and dancing and gamboling about as he did, happy as can be. It was a vibe totally unlike what I felt when I read these comments.
I'm not trying to judge anyone, or make a lame attempt at drawing attention or pity/empathy, or garner an apology, but I just want to know, that if the intention wasn't to celebrate him, or at the very least simply draw something nice without some sort of malicious intent or undertone, then why? What's the point? ...Again, I'm most likely blowing this completely out of proportion, making something out of nothing, making a mountain from an anthill, whatever you wanna call it, and if so, I apologize for typing up this essay that's seemingly berating you for drawing a picture of Jesus. But I assure you, I'm not trying to guilt-trip you or anything like that. If you actually bothered to read this whole thing, then I thank you, and apologize for taking up so much of your time.
I can safely re-assure this statement for a fact... back in 2006, I saw him perform in a "Jesus Christ Superstar Farewell Tour" at the Orpheum in SanFran... Corey Glover from "In Living Colour" played Judas... it was marvelous to see this elderly gentleman still belt out his stuff to an unsuspecting audience! 8D
Your visual rendition is astonishing! Quite accurate and rather gorgeous in terms of color and composition. Nice one! ;3
not saying it didn't happen, but so many mistaken assumptions,
even those enshrined in text, about how and why it did,
are a too large part, of why it still does.
(no one, at the time he lived, just as a btw, even IN europe, looked that european.
no one, on this planet, at that time, as yet did.
not saying that to be a downer. just something more people not knowing has caused problems too.)
(and he was a hero who did the right thing too. just not in quite the same way most christians seem to think.)
(his exicution wasn't for offending religious heirarchy of his day, nor even for preaching peace, but as an enimy combatant against the roman occupation,
and his preaching peace was not a change of mission, but of method.
demascus road, for saul of tarsus, was also a change of method rather then mission.
his mission was to neutralize the threat rome saw, from peace and love,
realizing that attacking its followers overtly, only made their mutual resolve stronger,
he set about to subvert it from the inside.
the second mycean council 'crucified' christ a second time, when it cannonized the epistles of 'saint' paul.
still didn't save rome.
abalard was no one's hero, but rome's fate (the old roman empire that had tyranized judea) was long over due.
has there been resolution, balance? not as long as humans continue to glorify hatred anger and war.
300 years after he was exicuted, rome did fall.
