Drew this up last night, pretty certain we weren't getting Bandanna Dee, Steve Minecraft, Waluigi, Geno, or Sora for Smash. I knew in my heart, some anime human character I didn't feel anything about would get in. Glad I was ready.
Try not to argue in the comments please, whether you're happy, disappointed, etc. with the Smash results, it's fine to feel however you do! (:

I did not know the 6th fighter was announced. Sad it is another Fire Emblem character. Though, given the makers of Smash also make Fire Emblem, I'm not all that surprised. If you love something you did it is impossible not to find more-and-more ways to plug it.
I could have gone for Spyro. He and Yoshi would be a neat pairing.
Sora from Kingdom Hearts could have been really silly. Though, with Disney a part of KH, I do not think such permission would be allowed.
It could have been fun to add Chun Li from Street Fighter. Chun Li would give us a female fighter from the franchise.
I also think Phoenix Wright would have been a funny addition. The courtroom would be a great battle place, too!
They could have also given us another Final Fantasy character. I know people did like Tidus from Final Fantasy X. Though he'd be another swordsman. :( Ooh! How about being able to play as Mog the Moogle?
If Rare was still feeling nice, we could have gotten Joanna Dark of 'Perfect Dark'. She'd off-balance Solid Snake quite nicely.
Though these are not our choices. *shrugs*

Oh yeah, kinda suddenly they just dropped the news there'd be a direct at 6am my time! Everyone actually thought it'd be Dante from Devil May Cry, due to a recent interview, otherwise recent polls showed Sora seems to be the most wanted both by the US and Japan, but also a lot of us have a theory they were going to add the main girl from Overwatch, but due to a controversy in China and with Blizzard, they might have canned or cancelled her, or maybe are putting it off for later.
Who knows! I'm happy enough with Banjo and K. Rool. And Sans! I can't believe those three are in there. Geno would be neat, but Square seems to have so many issues with copyright and its own content, it's hard to count on any of that, hehe.

I know that he's a swordsman, but honestly, I'd be ok with another combo based character like Dante or even Nero from DMC. Another one that I think would be interesting, would be a "Monster Hunter" character like in Capcom:Infinite where they use mutliple weapons or something to that effect, there's a lot of opportunity for them to use various different specials.
Sora's still on the table for FP2 tho thats a big maybe due to certain Floridian rodents, Geno and Waluigi were never on the table due to already being in smash as a spirit and a assist trophy respect, Steve will probably get in as a Mii Costume, and I have no idea why people want Bandana Dee
My biggest beef with the fire emblem characters is not so much it being just more fire emblem instead of something new and fun, it is mostly, they just reuse so many moves over and over and the new character just feels like so and so with slightly different mechanics. Even the new character takes so many moves from so many different characters that just do not seem like they are their own character, rather they had to use someone else's charm to be interesting. Such as, the bow animation is link, the hammer is king dede, the bow neutral air is pit, the sword wip is simon and richter, the spear is the closest to original sorta, and their mannerisms are so similar to marth it just makes me wonder why they wasted so much time with this character outside of them just being from a new game.
