Two nights ago, I had a really crazy dream in which, at one point, I rediscovered old fanart someone had drawn of my guarians! It was a sketch sheet of their guarian playing with mine, but when I woke up I realized no such pic existed. I remember the pic made me feel really happy in the dream though so I tried my best to recreate the one part of it I remember most which was this doodle here.
From what I remember in the dream, the all black, dragon-like one was mine and the ringed guarian was theirs. Also, the pic looked slightly different since it was done in "their style" and not mine. Who's style this was, I have no idea nor can I remember!

To be honest, I haven't really figured out an exact canonical way for that to happen! Pretty much any time I've drawn it or explained it, it's been different every time so really, you're free to come up with whatever you feel is most appropriate. The guarians are super open to interpretation so whatever suits you is most likely best!
Yeah, they're pretty much an open species! Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of resources in terms of references or how you should design your guarian. They're such a broad concept that I'm really pretty much open to anything, the only guidelines being that they should be faceless and have a big long neck (and those are only guidelines, not rules). They weren't even meant to be squeaky from the beginning, but I draw them as inflatables so often that it might as well be canon at this point haha
In terms of references, the best I can really offer you is the folder of guarian art which has pretty much every single guarian I've drawn up until this point.
I hope all this helps!

Hahaha, now that'd be an absolutely fascinating undertaking, but again, I think it would half suffer from the issues I mentioned above! The guarians by nature are so incredibly broad and defined by guidelines rather than rules that pretty much everything would have to be phrased like "guarians have xyz trait but I don't mind if you change that lol." Admittedly, it'd be nice to actually have all the info in one spot even if it just a loose guideline, but then there's the whole matter of figuring out a wiki, understanding the formatting, ect ect ect, a lot of work!
Also, this might sound kind of silly, but I like the guarians for their mysterious, unknowable nature. I feel like it gives people a lot more leeway to just create whatever they interpret from them rather than following guidelines, but I also fully realize that not everyone works that way and a lot of people like having a set of guidelines to abide by, so there's a lot to consider!

By your own description I envision them being sort of a precursor which has evolved over time, but members of the 'original design' still exist out there. Which leaves them/allows them to be open ended but also having a set backstory and biology.... or lack of, you know, really, as it's probably got its own name :D
Basically, it's the one big question: Where do guarians come from? Did they evolve, were they created, those kind of things. :)

That could certainly be interesting actually! It'd be a good way to explain it, but at the same time, I'm still lazy. As for your question, if you're looking for me to cover it, the truth is, I actually haven't really established an origin for the guarians myself! They always struck me as either being strangely infinite or they just sort of... happen, materialize into existence!
That or you could get TF'd into one since I've drawn that a few times now hahaha
