First story of 2020. Over the break, Fez Mangaka shared a story idea they had with me featuring a trio of characters from Pokemon Sword and Shield. It sounded solid, so here we are.
Professor Sonia and her new assistant Hop travel to the recently established Slumber Ranch. Despite only being operational for a few seasons, it has already established a reputation for providing the softest wooloo wool in the Galar region. Once they arrive, the pair encounter an old acquaintance who is there to find a pokemon of their own. Despite how relaxed the ranch seems, there is something off about Slumber Ranch, something transformative.

Interesting story. Great TFs, but McShear's motivations stymie me. He's out here TFing people for no clear reason other than "high quality livestock," and his affection seems genuine, but it seems like a lot of work for something you could get the old fashioned way. A lot of loose ends, too - people are gonna notice a gym leader and Pokemon Professor going missing...
You're not wrong, but a lot of TF stories collapse under scrutiny. Aside from Disney implying that adults are aware of Pleasure Island, there's no discernable reason authorities haven't shut the place down. In the original book, it's treated as a matter of fact that children who don't learn and just play all day become donkeys, but it's a really clear metaphor there, so there's no justification at all.
Perhaps he turns them back after a season with no memory of the event, or authorities have trouble making the leap from "They went missing after visiting this ranch" to "He provably turned them into pokemon". After all, there's no physical evidence of the transformation proper, and even though Pokemon does feature human to pokemon TF in canon, it's wibbly how many people actually believe it can happen or notice when it does.
If I were to expand on the story, I'd definitely do more to structure the "how he gets away with it" portion. It isn't exceptionally rare for gym leaders to go on extended trips into the wild, as at least one gym leader per game requires the player to go find them somewhere. As for the professor and her assistant, McShear could fenagle scheduling her visit into a larger trip plan where people she knows aren't expecting to see her for quite a while, and by the tame it's noted she and Hau are missing, it's muddled when and where they vanished.
Thanks for the feedback, glad it was interesting enough for you to think about it and consider the holes.
