A collab between me and  orcaowl! We had the pleasure of handling the conbook cover for Further Confusion 2020. I did the drawing, Orcaowl did the color, and we both art directed the piece. We wanted to do a piece that was personal and reflected our interpretation of the theme "cyberpunk". Using Orcaowl's fursona, we used this piece to explore the idea of self modification in a world with limitless options and access to information. With endless possibilities, what would you choose to be?

Overall, we both thought that cyberpunk in a furry context was really about bringing inner feelings about the self out, whether through physical means like body modifications and gender expression or internal means, like connecting the mind to a bigger network, internal cybernetics, reprogramming and updating the mind, etc.

The beautiful thing about the furry community is the many ways it allows people of all kinds to express themselves in deeper ways. It’s not a physical relation, but an emotional one, built on art, writing, music, and performance to bring the inner life out. It’s a community built on relationships both digital and physical that spans across the entire world. As the themes for many furrycons this year is cyberpunk, I want to explore that meeting of inner/outer life, both in the physical and digital worlds. I feel we’ve only scratched the surface, but I’m looking forward to delving into it deeper!
