In case anyone is concerned, The Squad is a collection of feral dogs that don’t generally let Marigold get close. They definitely prefer to be outside. That said, she makes sure that they’re all fixed and will call a vet if they need vet care.

There are actually fewer strays in this future than currently, mostly because bionic pets are very popular among parents. They don’t require a lot of care, and they don’t have any surprise litters. Adoption and foster programs generally accept both but, like the bionic humans, there’s not much of a place for those that don’t perform as expected.

Fluffy was much too friendly to be a guard dog and would’ve been a good foster candidate, but not Quill or Captain.

Yes, all of the dogs in The Squad are brown - a) I’m lazy and b) it’s supposed to be a rotating mix of strays based on dogs in the area or who are passing through.
