"Mama!" A Yelp was heard from within the mansion's hallway.
Oa was nearby and heard the cry, as she was startled and stopped in her tracks. Her current activities have to wait, so let's see who was crying for help. It turns out to be the voice of her son Joshua. However, a part of him looks different than usual.
"Sweetie! Are you okay? Oa said in a worried tone. His body has no sign of injuries, and as far as she could tell he look healthy, except for a distinct facial feature that wasn't there before. Out of nowhere he developed freshly new eyes.
"M-mama, my face feels funny… I'ma scared." Joshua cried even more, as the confusion clouded his senses.
"It's okay, Joshua. You shouldn't be scared." Oa said in a much more relaxing tone "Well, you seem to have grown some eyes!"
"E-eyes? Joshua touches his face even more confused, as he rub the area of the eyes "I'ma confused. What is that?"
"Let's see…" Oa ponders and tried to remember what these eyes are for, and soon a thought strikes her mind as she connect it with her husband's face. "Ah, it is something that some animals use to see the world."
Joshua tilted his head, as he replied saying " S-see the world? But-but I see it fine with my antennas."
"You see… we ozkvins aren't… how should I put this… um… stable." Oa said with some pauses, as she look for the right words to explain it to her youngling.
"Huh? W-wha do you mean b-by that?" Joshua asked.
"I… um… we tend to get some unusual stuff over time," Oa then carefully search in her mind becoming continuing "It's called mutation. I am not sure how it happend, but we can sometimes receive some unusual effects, like our eyes."
"I do5nt like it, mama." Joshua whimpers continue, as he blocked his eyes with his hand "I-it feels weird."
"There, there… Joshua. You don't have to worry about it," Oa soon consoles him the best she could. She didn't expect her son to such mutation so early in his life The truth is, she doesn't know how much about ozkvins that any stage of their lives. But what she does know is her experience on managing such mutation, which she Hope's to teach him soon "In due time it will be gone. Who knows, maybe you can control it just like me."
"Mama?" Joshua's eyes widen in disbelieve, her words did catch his attention "You can do that?"
"Let me show you," Oa let out a smile, and before you know it two pair of eyes similar to her son emerge from face, each onr located on certain side of the head. The eyes had darkish void retina with pupils under a vibrant yellow glow. This amazes her son in such a way, his fountain tears swept away.
"T-thats so pretty!" Joshua responded, his joy overshadow the fear he had a few moments ago "Mama, are my eyes are like that too?"
"They are, sweetie!" Oa answered, cleaning away her son's tears "Only tha yours comes with a beautiful red glow!
"Uuuh r-really?" Joshua then asked, feeling bashful.
Oa nodded with a friendly smile "They are as red as your father's feathers!" She then chuckles from the remark as she could see his son let out a childish smile. Surely it did the trick. And soon after Joshua embraces his mother with a hug.
"Mama, can daddy mutate too?" Joshua asked faithfully.
"No, he can not, dearie." Oa then answered.
"Why not? Joshua had grown curious about the matter. Oa did not expect to answer this part either to his son, but she guess his son needs to know the truth… eventually.
"You see, Joshua, daddy isn't an ozkvins like us." Oa said without hesitation this time around "He is an avian."
"Why is daddy an avian, mama?" Joshua tilted his head with a slight confusion.
"Well um… that's a story for another time" Oa sighed.
"Aww…" Joshua was disappointed with the vague answer "Pleeeease. I really want to know!
"First we will eat dinner, and then we can talk about it with your daddy, all right sweetie?" Oa then rubs her son's head.
"Okay, mama!" Joshua was giddy at the sound of dinner, as he walk alongside side her mother.
Oa will surely need Wiel's help on this one...
One of the biggest hurdles she faces as a mother is how to eventually teach her younglins how to control their mutations. At first, she didn't felt the need to until Joshua has shown signs of instability. Thankfully it was something she was familiar with. The issue is whether they develop other mutations she isn't aware of... So might as well lecture then what she knows before it becomes awkward.
So I have return with electricity at last. The temporary backup power during the blackout I work on this one. I had this in my backburner since 2018, so it feels good to actually finish this!
