Lately I've been musing about fat characters in fantasy. I've been trying to find some good designs for some larger characters.
So... In fantasy I feel like it's important to be sort of... Evocative, you know? To draw on the tropes and ideas and emotions that have come before. In a really unrealistic genre, you need a certain familiarity to connect with things... Not necessarily a realism or historical focus, but just things that evoke ideas and tell you enough at a glance that you want to learn more.
By allowing people to connect with things like that, they become immediately appealing.
So here's one of the results of my doodling...
I imagine her as a sort of half-orc who acts as a princess, leader, and sorceress to her clan. Essentially someone with a great deal of power, and who knows it and exudes it.
I tried to play up her size with a towering beehive hairdo and a fur hide that makes her even wider, and attempted to give her a sort of powerful aura befitting of someone in charge. Likewise, she bears a few symbols of that power she holds on her - An animal hide, an impractical weapon and hairstyle, jewelry, neck-rings, and other such things that would bear little sense outside of showing status and ceremony. I also tried to make her very pretty and elegant... A high queen, in essence.
As larger characters are quite rare in the historical record, I aimed a bit more fantastic with this too... Though some of her clothing is inspired by real-world styles - A beaded corset of the Dinka tribe, a greek grapevine headdress, horned helmet similar to certain celtic ceremonial wear, etc - it is more BBW fashion and Queen Amidala than anything realistic
Anyways, it's okay
